Namaste – and welcome to Nepal!
To travel to the Himalayas, to walk among the world’s highest mountains and explore its culture and legends, is a lifelong dream for many. It’s a mythical place, where humans have challenged the elements for centuries and lived humbly at the foot of Chomolungma. We know her as Mount Everest. Locals call her Sagarmatha – Mother of the Universe.
Join us for an unforgettable adventure in Nepal! This program is rich and varied, yet carefully designed to allow you time to absorb local culture, connect with warm-hearted people, wander through ancient alleyways, and uncover stories that stretch back through the centuries. Along the way, we’ll step straight into Mowgli’s Jungle Book – all while snowy Himalayan peaks rise in the background.
Day-by-Day Program
Day 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be greeted by your Swedish tour leader and travel host, Fredrik Hermelin.
A short transfer brings us to the historic Hotel Shanker, our base during the stay in Kathmandu. Once everyone has arrived and checked in, we gather in the hotel’s lush garden for a welcome ceremony and shared lunch. Together, we’ll go through the program and set the tone for the journey ahead.
In the afternoon, we visit one of Nepal’s most sacred sites – Pashupatinath Temple. As we walk through this holy area, rich with symbolism and age-old rituals, we’ll witness Hindu cremation ceremonies along the banks of the Bagmati River. Pashupatinath is not only one of Asia’s most important Hindu temples but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hills surrounding the temple are home to holy men known as sadhus, and everywhere you’ll see cows, goats, and monkeys in the trees – all part of a vibrant and unforgettable atmosphere.
We end the day with a memorable dinner at the renowned Krishnarpan restaurant – an evening to remember.
Day 2 – The World Heritage City of Bhaktapur
After a good breakfast, we head out to Bhaktapur, another UNESCO-listed treasure. Though badly damaged in the 2015 earthquake, the city has been under determined and skilled restoration ever since. Our visit supports the preservation of this cultural gem.
Founded in the 13th–14th century, Bhaktapur is a city of open squares, temples, and ancient alleyways – each with its own story. During a guided walking tour, we’ll learn about its living traditions and how life here has evolved over the centuries. You’ll experience some of the most remarkable temples in the world, while gaining insight into how Nepal – with over 120 ethnic groups, languages, and religions – has maintained peaceful coexistence for generations.
It’s a relaxed and enriching day in a pleasant climate. We enjoy a delicious lunch locally before returning to the hotel. The evening wraps up with dinner at one of Kathmandu’s charming restaurants.
Day 3 – On the Road
After an early breakfast, we head to the airport for our short scenic flight to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region.
Days 4–6 – Into the Mountains: Trekking at the Foot of the Himalayas
Now it’s time for three unforgettable days of light trekking in the foothills of the mighty Annapurna range. Surrounded by snowy peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and the legendary Fishtail Mountain (Machapuchare) – some of the world’s most iconic mountains – we begin a journey through peaceful, rolling landscapes.
Each night, we stay in spacious tents or traditional teahouses, with full service and all meals included. It’s simple living at its most magnificent, with our own Sherpa team handling logistics and carrying the heavy gear.
You’ll only need a light daypack with essentials as we walk between 1,250 and 3,000 meters above sea level. The trail leads through authentic villages and breathtaking scenery. We stop often to enjoy chiia – traditional Nepali tea – and soak in the endless views. These are days of stillness, movement, and magic. Memories to last a lifetime.
Day 7 – Return to Pokhara
After completing the trek and taking in Himalayan vistas, we return to Pokhara – the beautiful lakeside city nestled beneath the mountains. Here we enjoy well-earned showers, cozy beds, and some well-deserved rest. We check into a charming hotel and share a delicious dinner together.
During the day, we also explore a bit of Pokhara – perhaps a stroll around the serene Phewa Lake, or a visit to the bustling local bazaar. New adventures await – this time, in the jungle.
Days 8–9 – The Jungle Book Comes Alive
After breakfast, we head south to Chitwan National Park – a five-hour journey into the lowland Terai, where the Himalayan foothills meet lush jungle and wide rice fields. Chitwan is home to elephants, rhinos, crocodiles, countless bird species – and with luck, even the elusive Bengal tiger.
We stay in a lovely nature lodge surrounded by wilderness. Over two full days, we enjoy jungle safaris on foot and in traditional wooden boats. At dawn, elephants bathe in the river while peacocks call out from the treetops – it’s a magical moment in time.
We also visit nearby villages and get a glimpse into the local way of life. It truly feels like stepping into The Jungle Book. Did you know that “Baloo” actually means “bear” in Nepali?
Day 10 – Return to Kathmandu
After breakfast, we say goodbye to the jungle – though a little part of our inner Mowgli might follow us home. A short 25-minute flight brings us back to Kathmandu.
In the afternoon, we return to our beloved Hotel Shanker, where we can relax and reflect. In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner on a cozy rooftop terrace in the heart of the city. We share stories and highlights from the journey. For those who wish, there’s a chance to end the night with music, dance, and one last taste of Kathmandu’s vibrant spirit.
Day 11 – A Day for Yourself
This is your day to explore on your own. Sleep in, enjoy a long breakfast, take a peaceful morning walk, shop for souvenirs, visit temples – or simply relax in the hotel garden. We’re happy to help with suggestions and directions.
After lunch, we regroup at the hotel to pack and prepare for the journey home. In the evening, we transfer to the airport and begin the flight back to Scandinavia.
Namaste – Surakṣita Yātrā – Safe travels.
