Manaslu – The Mountain of the Spirit

Far from the crowded trails of Everest and Annapurna lies a quieter, wilder world. Manaslu—meaning “Mountain of the Spirit”—rises to 8,163 meters as the eighth highest mountain on Earth. Tucked away in the remote Mansiri Himal in west-central Nepal, it remains one of the Himalayas' most soulful giants.

First summited in 1956 by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu on a Japanese expedition, Manaslu has since inspired explorers seeking something more than just altitude—a deeper connection to landscape, culture, and silence.

The Manaslu Circuit is one of the last great Himalayan trekking adventures. Officially opened to trekkers only in 1991, this restricted area holds onto its mystery. The trail is raw and rugged, winding through dramatic gorges, ancient salt-trading paths, and timeless Buddhist villages near the Tibetan border. It all leads to the legendary Larkye La pass at 5,105 meters—windswept, wild, and absolutely unforgettable.

This is Manaslu. This is a true Himalayan journey.

Imagine standing on the summit, gazing out across snow-covered peaks and turquoise glacial lakes—knowing you’re higher than the tallest mountains in both Europe and Africa. Just a stone’s throw away rises Mount Everest and Nuptse, while Ama Dablam and Makalu stretch across the horizon in breathtaking beauty. Below you lies the steep and exposed ridge you just climbed—now part of your story. And yes, the sense of accomplishment is absolutely real.

Note: Most expedition companies only climb to the “false summit.” But with us, if you have the strength, spirit, and conditions allow—we always aim for the true summit.

Joining Hi On Life’s Lobuche Peak Expedition requires both physical endurance and mental resilience. Previous climbing experience is a plus, but not essential.

From the summit of Mera Peak—Nepal’s highest trekking peak—you’ll be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking views imaginable. From the top, you can see five of the six highest mountains in the world: Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and Cho Oyu.

Despite the physical challenge of climbing above 6,000 meters, Mera Peak is not considered technically difficult. There are no steep or exposed sections, and the slope rarely exceeds 30 degrees. Combined with the stunning scenery and a rewarding trek to base camp, it’s easy to see why Mera Peak is such a popular goal.

The trail winds through enchanting rhododendron forests, passing remote villages and giving us time to gradually acclimatize to the altitude—until we finally reach Mera’s 6,476-meter summit.

To join Hi On Life’s Mera Peak Expedition, you’ll need to be physically and mentally prepared. Prior mountaineering experience is helpful but not required.
