Välkommen till vårt unika program Expedition ”Heart of Africa 2023”
Ett unikt program där vi återvänder till vårt fantastiska Afrika och till de enastående och vackra länderna Rwanda och Uganda. En "Roadtrip" i 14 dagar resa med 4x4 Land Cruiser från Rwandas huvudstad Kigali i Söder till Ugandas huvudstad Kampala/Entebbe i Norr. Vår expeditionen startar i Kigali, varifrån vi tar er med på en historisk resa från mäktiga kungadömen, tropiska skogar till storslagna aktiva vulkaner, boutique hotel och mäktig safari savanner. Vi reser på småvägar, genom lokala byar, vackra bergsområden och grönskande landskap. Vi möter människorna, tar del av deras vardag och upplever ett riktigt genuint Afrika.
Här finns också några av Östafrikas mest artrika och spektakulära nationalparker där vi kan se och uppleva ett fantastiskt och djurliv, bl.a. endemiska fågelarter, lejon, svart noshörning, leopard, afrikansk elefant, afrikansk buffel, också kända som ”The Big Five”. Vi finner också en enorm mångfald av primater som chimpanser, colobusapor, silkesapor och så de mäktigaste av alla ‘De dimhöljda bergens gorillor.

(Svenska kommer den 03 maj 2022) Day 1 - 26 August - Kigali
On your arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, our representative will welcome you and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Heaven Boutique Hotel.
Day 2 - 27 August - Kigali
After breakfast, we organize a short city tour of Kigali. The capital town of Rwanda is found at an altitude of about 1800 meters above sea level and it is spread along various hills making the different local areas.
We will make visits to some wonderful places like Kigali Cultural Village which is a traditional market space where local artisans & food vendors exhibit and trade their goods, the Kigali Cultural Village also hosts events, workshops, festivals and music.
We will aslo visit the Kandt House. The former home of German resident Richard Kandt on the Nyarugenge Hill in Kigali city, which now was turned into Natural History Museum since 2006. Richard Kandt arrived in Rwanda in 1897 in search of the remote source of the Nile; he was also a naturalist and he studied Nyungwe Forest and discovered species like the golden monkeys. Dinner and overnight at Heaven Boutique Hotel.
Day 3 - 28 August - Nyanza - Butare
After breakfast you leave Kigali Southwest to Nyungwe National Park. The first stopover is made in Nyanza, that in the past was the political capital and it hosts the antique Royal palace, entirely renovated for the visitors, displaying original items and pieces of history of the Mwami, the king. Lunch in Butare, the second town in Rwanda, considered the cultural capital, hosting the university and the National Museum. Arrive in Nyungwe National Park for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Top View Lodge. Note: Today journey might take up to 5 hours.
Day 4 - 29 August - Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park - Kibuye
After breakfast early in the morning, at 6 o'clock you will enter the Nyungwe Forest for the chimpanzee trekking and other primates, among which the Angolan colobus. There are two sites to do this activity: the entrance to Uwinka or the Cyamudongo forest, which is an integral part of the Nyungwe park. The park covers 1020 square kilometers of green hills, the largest pristine mountain tropical forest in East Africa. Nyungwe is home to 13 different species of primates, including chimpanzees (there are about 500), the colobus of Rwenzori, the monkey of Hoest, silver monkey, the face of an owl, red tail, vervet and baboons. Nyungwe is also the most important birdwatching site in Rwanda, with over 310 species of birds. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon proceed to Kibuye on Lake Kivu, for dinner and overnight at Cormoran Lodge. Note: Today journey might take up to 3 hours though dirt murram roads.
Day 5 - 30 August - Lake Kivu - Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, early morning boat trip to Idjwi Island on Lake Kivu. Proceed to Gisenyi for lunch. In the afternoon you arrive at Volcanoes National Park, at the foothills of the beautiful Eight Virunga volcanoes, at an altitude range of 2.500 meters. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. Full Board. Note: Today journey might take up to 4 hours.
Day 6 - 31 August - Optional Trekking in Volcanoes NP
After breakfast "Optional" we organize a trekking in Volcanoes National Park. The choice is between mountain Gorilla tracking, Golden monkey trekking or Old Karisoke trekking to see the tombs of Dian Fossey and the gorillas. Bring with you water and packed lunch. In the afternoon proceed to Uganda via Cyanika border on Lake Mutanda or Lake Mulehe, for the dinner and overnight at Ichumbi Lodge
Day 7 - 01 September - Mountain gorilla tracking in Bwindi NP
In the morning you enter the rain tropical forest of Bwindi for the gorilla safari "Optional". The activity starts at 8am and you will follow the ranger guides in a group of maximum 8 people as you search for the habituated family of mountain gorillas, which was allocated according to the permits.
Bwindi forest in Uganda has a population of about 420 gorillas. It is not predictable the time you will spend to encounter the gorillas. You have one hour for observing the primates and their behaviors, while taking photographs. You get the packed lunch and water with you in the bag and for this you might need the support of available porters. Dinner and overnight at Ichumbi Lodge
Day 8 - 02 September - Batwa Trail - Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, you can enjoy a walk in the nature of Echuya Forest, to encounter the Batwa pigmy’s and to learn about their history, traditions and culture. Lunch and proceed to Lake Bunyonyi, where we organize a canoe trip for cultural and natural activities. Dinner and overnight at Arcadia Cottages Bunyonyi.
Day 9 - 03 September - Lake Bunyonyi - Ishasha of Queen Elizabeth
After breakfast, you leave Lake Bunyonyi to Queen Elizabeth National Park in time for lunch in Ishasha. You will have a game drive in the Southern region of the park, Ishasha, in search for the so called “tree climbing lions”. During the hot hours of the day, lions of this area enjoy resting lying on top of Figs trees and it is exciting to see this spectacular spot. Visit Kayonza Tea factory for the agro-tourism to discover the typical Ugandan black tea (if time allows). Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.
Note: Today transfer can be very long up to 5 hours and depends on roads conditions.
Day 10 - 04 September - Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, be ready for a long game drive along the tracks of the national park, in the Northern sectors and towards Lake George and Kasenyi village, using our safari vehicle. You might see lions, elephants, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, waterbucks, Ugandan kobs, perhaps the leopard though is shy and rare to be seen. Queen Elizabeth enjoys unique landscapes and views of crater lakes and the Albertine Rift Valley, which make this area special and unforgettable. Lunch from the lodge.
In the afternoon, take the most exciting safari by boat from Mweya peninsula along Kazinga channel, one of the most popular sites in Uganda for its concentration of wildlife, bird’s life and opportunities for good photographs. Moreover, you will see plenty of hippos, buffaloes and elephants while drinking from the channel. In the evening you go for another short game drive and try out your luck. Return at lush to your lodge for dinner and overnight, Mweya Safari Lodge.
Day 11 - 05 September - Queen Elizabeth - Crater Lakes - Bugoma Forest Reserve
After breakfast, the journey proceeds to the North. You pass through the beautiful area of the Kasenda crater lakes. Lunch at Ndali Lodge overlooking the crater lakes. In the afternoon proceed North through sugarcane, tea, banana, coffee and cocoa plantations up to Bugoma Forest Reserve. At the lodge it is possible to arranghe an evening walk along the loop forest trail for birding and primates’ observation. Dinner and overnight at Bugoma Jungle Lodge. Note: Today transfer can be up to 4/5 hours and depends on roads conditions.
Day 12 - 06 September - Mangabey walk in Bugoma - Murchison Falls NP
After breakfast, we organize the Ugandan mangabey nature walk in Bugoma Forest. With its size of 410 sq km, Bugoma is the habitat of the chimpanzees and Ugandan mangabeys. After the walk, we plant a tree in the reforestation area. We proceed to Murchison Falls National Park in time for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon Safari game drive in the savannah of the Delta of river Nile North of Murchison Falls. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge with its beautiful view of the Nile.
Day 13 - 07 September - Murchison Falls National Park
After a cup of coffee, you will depart for an early morning game drive, in the region of the delta of the Nile on Lake Albert, Northern bank. Among other animals in the wild. Relax as you drive back to the lodge where you will have breakfast and lunch. In the afternoon, another safari will be organized by boat along the river Nile to the base of the Murchison Falls. It is amazing the concentration of wildlife in the bank of the river Nile, including hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird’s species, like African eagles, pelicans, kingfisher, Egyptian geese and much more. The boat excursion will end with the walk to the Top of the falls. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge.
Day 14 -08 September - Kampala/Entebbe - Skandinavien
After breakfast, you drive to Kampala. In the afternoon you will be in Kampala for some shopping before airport transfer for departure from Entebbe Airport for evening flight at 23.30 flight KLM. Lunch on the way to Entebbe Airport. - END OF PROGRAM -
